The Neighborhood:
Living in Mérida's Historic Downtown is not the same as visiting it. From this house, you experience the city the way its people do.
Everything is within a 10-minute walk: Plaza Grande with the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, the Government Palace with Fernando Castro Pacheco's murals, the 16th-century Casa de Montejo, and the Lucas de Gálvez Market where locals start their day with a bowl of sopa de lima, and a street full of restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops around every corner.
On Thursday evenings, the Serenata Yucateca takes over Parque Santa Lucía, free entry, live music and one of those moments you don't forget. On Sundays, Paseo de Montejo closes to traffic and fills up with families, cyclists and street food stalls.
The neighborhood has everything within walking distance: pharmacies, supermarkets, ATMs and public transit stops. This is a historic downtown that truly lives, not one preserved behind glass.
Getting Around:
On foot: 90% of what you'll want to see is less than a 15-minute walk away. The neighborhood is completely safe and pleasant to walk through day and night.
DiDi: The app works great in Mérida and is the most convenient way to get around. From the airport to the house runs approximately 120–150 MXN and the ride takes about 25 minutes.
Bicycle: Mérida is one of the most bike-friendly cities in Mexico. There are dedicated bike lanes, the BiciRuta public bike system with stations downtown, and several rental options by the hour or day just a few blocks away.
Bus: The urban network covers the entire city for under 15 MXN. We're happy to point you toward the right routes depending on where you want to go.
Car: The location doesn't call for one, and parking in the historic center can be tricky. If you're traveling by car, there are public parking lots 3–5 blocks away.
Other Things to Note:
In Mérida, you can immerse yourself in a vibrant blend of culture, history, and tradition; from exploring the colorful Historic Center with its museums, plazas, and artisan markets, to savoring the delicious local cuisine like cochinita pibil and panuchos. You can also enjoy cultural events such as the Serenata Yucateca, stroll through its parks and squares, and discover the Mayan heritage at nearby archaeological sites. Whether walking, biking, or riding a horse-drawn carriage through its streets, Mérida offers an authentic experience full of warmth and hospitality that invites you to live each day with magic and flavor.
